History
As mentioned earlier, tools began to be used many millions of years ago, not only by Homo Sapiens, but by some other mammals. However, other mammals appear to never have developed beyond fairly elementary tools.
Of special interest is that when Homo Sapiens began to control fire, probably about 9,000 years ago, many new uses were discovered. One that was important involved new possibilities for preparing food. Many items, that were either difficult or impossible to eat, suddenly became possible to eat and sometimes tasted much better. This also meant that some foods could also be saved much longer to be eaten in the future.
Fire could also be used to create better items to be used when fishing or hunting. In addition, many predators could be kept at bay by fire. Technically, fire could be used in a variety of ways that were not directly related to food. Weapons could be created much sharper and used to kill enemies both of other species and other groups of Homo Sapiens. |
