The decline in the importance of the traditional religions lead to an increase of other religious groups. There was, for example, Scientology which believed that Homo Sapiens were essentially good and had a body with a brain which had an immortal spirit. Lesser well-known religions included for Seicho-No-Le in Japan, Dianetics in Denmark, The Satantic Temple in the USA, and The Shepard’s Rod also in the USA.
A Russian Helen Blavatsky led a religious movement, in the USA, called Theosophy in the late 19th century. They had Masters in a secret brotherhood centered in Tibet. Theosophy appears to have been based on Hinduism, Buddhism and some older European philosophies such as Neoplatonism. Besides these more official religions there were many semi-religious activities (that were not called religions) in music and sports, that I have mentioned earlier. |
